From the Desk of Executive Director Bryon Short - April 12, 2024
Last week, DCA had a record turnout for its 23nd Annual Governor’s Safety Awards Dinner. The work of the construction industry can often place our workers in physically risky situations. It is just the nature of the work we do but that risk can be mitigated through education and safety training. It is chief among DCA’s mission to ensure our members have the best support to guarantee their workforce is highly trained in all aspects of workplace safety whether it be on a job site, in the shop or in an office.
As I write this, Training and Education Committee Chair Jim Ruggerio, EDIS, and Josh Bacon, A-Del, are leading a Job Hazard Safety discussion in our boardroom for our members Safety Directors. I am pleased to share that Chair Ruggerio was recently at the AGC Annual Conference along with Past President Brian DiSabatino to accept the highly competitive (think 40 judges with interviews of advancing applicants) AGC Safety Award on behalf of EDIS.
It is in recognition of the importance of safety that DCA takes an evening each year to celebrate our members who have demonstrated an exemplary safety record. This year we recognized 27 of our contractor members who have been successful in executing best practices. To qualify, companies must have an incident rate at or below the industry average.
