As I was cruising between Crab Feast tents helping with last minute prep, YEC Co-chair, Matt Benedict, Greggo and Ferrara, stopped me and said I looked like I was in heaven with a big grin on my face. I said I was; I love our crab feast and everything was coming together so well. Some years we get some pretty hot weather and last year we had a powerful wind and rainstorm hit right at the end sending everyone scrambling. This year we had nice weather and got to enjoy a new layout that received nothing but compliments.
With this year being our 50th Anniversary we were looking to make it a blowout event and that’s just what we did! We had even more in attendance this year than last, we went through 130 bushels of crabs, over 1,000 pulled pork sandwiches and countless cold beers served in our 50th Anniversary commemorative cups sponsored by Superior Electric. The Crab Feast T-shirts, which are always designed by the DCA Young Executive Committee, sold out in record time!
As with any big event, there are many to be thanked for making it possible. First, I want to thank Nicholas J. Ferrara III, Greggo and Ferrara, for the continued generous donation of his property to hold the event. Second, a special thank you must be extended to our Event Sponsor Eastern Highway Specialist, DJ Sponsor Cassidy Painting and Equipment Sponsor Active Crane Rentals who made the approach over the bridge spectacular. We are also very grateful to the 20 beverage sponsors who made sure no one went thirsty.
As you all know, the YEC members are the ones who turn Crab Feast plans into reality. Their hard work leading up to the event, the evening of the event and even the day after are what really make this possible. This year Jamie Chambers took point on coordinating this huge and important event with lots of support from Mary Sheldon and Marla DiSalvo.
We do this event because our members, their customers and employees really look forward to it and appreciate it. Your support of events like the Annual Crab Feast and Annual Dinner provides the resources DCA uses to be the voice shaping Delaware’s construction economy, the place to train your workforce, and a great place to build your business.
