DCA member Marcella Saborio, Qua Marketing, has been the consultant putting together some great events for the Department of Transportation seeking to create fun, new ways for primes and DBEs to connect. I was unable to attend the first networking event at Dogfish Head in May but was able to make last week’s event at the Dover Speedway. I was very pleased to see several members of DCA’s DelDOT Liaison Committee in attendance and to hear that some of our folks have held DBE open houses related to this initiative and more plan to do the same.
At our June DCA DelDOT Liaison Committee meeting, Nick Hetrick R.E. Pierson Construction shared the positive experience he had at the Dogfish event seeing some DBE contractors he was familiar with, making some new DBE connections while also spending time with DelDOT decision makers. This was my experience as well at the Dover Speedway event plus I had the chance to be paired with some DBE contractors I didn’t know for a ride around the Monster Mile!
It was great to see a strong showing of our DCA DelDOT Liaison Committee members and want to acknowledge the members listed below for their commitment to supporting the development of a strong DBE sector within our highway contractor community.
The next event is scheduled for Thursday, August 24 at the Wilmington Blue Rocks Stadium where attendees will be networking in the Diamond Club right behind home plate. As part of this year-long DBE effort, DelDOT will be holding its annual Small Business and DBE Summit with an anticipated 300 attendees on November 1, 2023. Supporting events like these is one of the many ways DCA is actively working to expand the construction economy and those who benefit from it.
