Since its inception in 1989, the DCA Scholarship Fund has built the Delaware construction industry’s future through its financial support of students pursuing construction related fields. The fund provides scholarships to the employees of DCA members and their dependents who reside in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland. Over the course of the past 30 years, the scholarship has supported the aspirations of almost 60 students with over $100,000 in awards.

The Scholarship Committee, chaired by Greg Sawka of Bancroft Construction, recently met discussing how best to get the word out about this great opportunity for eligible students as well as how to keep the fund strong for years to come. Recognizing the close of the 2022 tax year is rapidly approaching, the topic of donations to the scholarship fund being tax deductible came up. The DCA Scholarship Fund is registered with the IRS as a 501(c)(3) entity making your contributions tax deductible.

These scholarships do make a difference to both the recipients and to our industry. Following a recent presentation I made to this year’s Leadership Delaware class, Jennalee Fede, an employee of DCA member Verdantas, shared with me that she received DCA Scholarship support throughout her studies and the role she now plays in our construction economy. The committee plans to meet next in March, make scholarship determinations in July with scholarship winners being notified soon after. Please help spread the word of this financial support opportunity to those who you think might qualify and benefit.

DCA’s Scholarship Fund is one of the ways DCA is bringing the best and brightest to the construction industry.
