From the Desk of Executive Director Bryon Short - March 8, 2023
This week the construction industry celebrated the critical and ever-expanding role women play in all aspects of the field. DCA has benefited from of our female members at every level of the organization. The perspective and talent Past Presidents Ellen Rohrbach, Greggo and Ferrara, and Gladys King, brought to DCA during their tenure helped place the organization in the strong position it holds today.
In an industry that continues to be male dominated, the Delaware Contractors Association values the insights and experiences of our female members who contribute throughout the organization from committees to service on our Board of Directors. Although DCA appreciates and benefits from the unique contributions of all our Board of Directors, I would like to take a moment in recognition of this week being Women in Construction Week to thank and recognize the women Board of Director members who contribute to Delaware’s construction economy week-in and week-out:
Vice President, Alisha Bryson, Wayman Fire Protection
Sallie Ann Conner, Schneider Trailer & Container Rental
Joelle Fitzsimmons, Superior Electric
Victoria Petrone, Baird Mandalas Brockstedt & Federico
In February of last year, the Delaware Department of Labor released Delaware Women and the Construction Trades: A Path to Economic Security which examines the challenges and opportunities for women in construction in Delaware. There is still a long way to go for the construction industry to benefit from all that women interested in the field have to offer but DCA is fortunate and proud to have so many women owned businesses among our membership leading the way!
Anaconda Protective Concepts, Inc. Brandywine Construction Co. Inc. Curbs, Etc., Inc. | Kriss Contracting, Inc. Marinis Bros., Inc. Patriot Insulation Contractors, LLC Schneider Trailer and Container Rental, Inc. |
Is the industry making progress in sharing its diversity and career benefits with women? Sure, but there is so much more need and opportunity. We need to continue to spread the word about what the construction industry has to offer women and support those women owned businesses that are already contributing to the construction economy. So, as always, I encourage our members to do business with other DCA members including our great women owned members!
