From the Desk of Executive Director Sean Matthews - January 24, 2025

My name is Sean Matthews. I am the new Executive Director. It has been great to meet some DCA members so far and I plan to spend the early part of my tenure trying to connect with as many of you as possible.  When I attended DCA events as a legislator, I was always impressed by the knowledge and dedication of DCA members in their respective fields.  My predecessor, Bryon Short, was a friend and mentor to me and with support from the DCA staff, I hope to carry on his legacy of service to you.

A bit of background about me: I just finished serving 10 years in the Delaware State House.  I was most recently the Chair of the House Transportation Committee, and I also served on the Joint Committee on Capital Improvement (Bond).  My proudest achievement in Dover was working with DelDOT to create a system to better fund neighborhood road projects.  On a personal note, I am married to my beautiful wife, Raven, and have three awesome children: Jaxon (7th grade), Declan (4th grade) and Gemma (2nd Grade).  In my free time, I enjoy doing home improvements (I just finished a major kitchen rehab project) and you can often find me on the basketball court or coaching youth sports.

We all know how important the infrastructure and construction sectors are for Delaware’s economy.  DCA is a strong organization because we represent a wide variety of stakeholders and sometimes viewpoints.  Our strength is rooted not only in the legacies and leaders of our member companies, but also in the extent to which employees of member companies are able make connections with the legislators, policymakers and government officials who represent them in Local, State and Federal governments.

I want to come to your businesses, meet your employees and work to engage them in support of DCA’s mission and agenda.  Look for more on this topic.  It is a key part of the Board's and my goals for this organization.

To close, I look forward to hearing from you and learning what's important to you, your businesses, and your employees.  The future is full of challenges and opportunities.  I hope that I can use my time at DCA to work together with you to ensure that the Delaware Contractors Association remains the leading and most respected “Voice of Construction” in Delaware.
